Ribemont is a French commune situated in the département of Aisne, in the région of Hauts-de-France.
A little history
The strategic geographical situation of the town suggests that it must have been a Gaulish oppidum. In the 19th and 20th centuries, remains were able to trace part of the history of Ribemont. Celtic axes, including one made of white flint, attest to the presence of the Celts. Frankish burial sites were found at the ferme de la Grande Cense. From the Gallo-Roman period, Gaulish coins were also discovered. The five centuries of Roman occupation are confirmed by the discovery of a white glass vase (preserved at the musée de Picardie) and a small-coursed masonry wall at the site of the former château de Ribemont. In 685, Constantin was the first châtelain of Ribemont.
