Sur le plan historique et culturel, la commune est dans le Sidobre, un territoire granitique couverts de forêts, à l'est de Castres. Exposée à un climat océanique altéré, elle est drainée par l'Agout, la Durenque, la Durencuse, le Lignon, le Vernoubre et par divers autres petits cours d'eau.
