A little history
Strabon and Pline report that a Celtic people is said to have settled in the region and founded, on the territory of the town of Nîmes, the ancient capital of the Volques Arécomiques. The latter became mistress of twenty-four considerable market towns. During the Iron Age (8th to 2nd centuries BC), under the possible place name of Namausikabo, one of the principal oppida of Mediterranean Celtic territory took shape.
