Alès (pronounced) is a French commune situated in the north of the Gard département, in the Occitanie region. Excavations on the hill of l'Ermitage have uncovered the remains of Gaulish dwellings from the 1st century BC, including a mosaic from the time of Jules César (first half of the 1st century BC).
