Les Angles is a French commune situated in the east of the département of Gard in the Occitanie region. The town borders Avignon and forms part of the communauté d'agglomération du Grand Avignon. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Durance, the Rhône and the bras de Villeneuve.
A little history
The site of Les Angles has been inhabited since prehistory. The final Neolithic period is represented by characteristic remains on the Rocher de la justice, overlooking the Rhône. Roman occupation is attested in the 1st century of our era, in the current quarter of Candau. Human occupation left numerous remains there during the following century, and it is from this period that the great pagan sarcophagus dates, which was discovered there in the 18th century. The first manifestations of Christianity go back to the 5th century.
