A little history
In 1699, Charles de Rochette obtained that the seigneuries of Arâches and Scionzier, which he had just purchased, be elevated to a comté by duke Victor-Amédée II de Savoie. These purchases followed that of the château de Cohendier in 1684, which had allowed the seigneur de Rochette to bear the title of baron de Cohendier. The valley of Arâches possesses a source of ferruginous mineral water, above the village of Les Moulins, and a coal mine at the end of a ravine formed by the torrent de Planajoux, beyond the village of Pernant. In 1750, this mine was operated by mademoiselle de Bellegarde des Marches and by the celebrated baronne de Warens.
