Vic-Fezensac (in Occitan, Vic de Fesensac) is a French commune situated in the département of Gers, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Pays d'Auch, a cereal-growing and wine-producing territory which also became an official pays in the sense of territorial planning in 2003. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Osse, the Auzoue, the Guiroue, the Sanipon, the ruisseau du pesqué nau and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
L'Astronome writes that in 801, following the death of Bourguignon, the county was given to Luitard (Leuthard Ier de paris). The Gascons, displeased with this appointment, fell into such disorder that they put to the sword a portion of the men-at-arms of the new count, and caused the rest to perish in the flames. Summoned to judgement, they at first refused to comply. However, eventually compelled to come and defend themselves, they suffered the punishment that such audacity deserved, and some, condemned under the law of retaliation, perished by fire. Fezensac is thought to have originally been a Roman agricultural settlement.
