L'Isle-Jourdain [l‿ il ʒuʁ.dɛ̃], in Gascon, L'Isla de Baish ['lil.lɔ de baʃ] is a French commune situated in the département of Gers, in the région of Occitanie. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Savès, a small Gascon province corresponding to the middle course of the Save. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Save, the Cédat, the Rémoulin, the ruisseau de la soubire, the ruisseau de Noailles, the ruisseau des Crabères, the ruisseau du Gay and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
L'Isle-Jourdain was the chief town of its district from 1790 to 1795. Admitted into the arrondissement of Lombès (currently Lombez) in 1801, it joined that of Auch in 1926. L'Isle-Jourdain absorbed the commune of Casse-Martin in 1823 and that of Aragnès in 1824. The cleché, voided, pommetty cross of the town is entitled Croix de l'Isle Jourdain.
