Mauvezin is a French commune situated in the east of the département of Gers, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Fézensaguet, a small Gascon pays, a former viscountcy situated between the Armagnac and the Lomagne. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Gimone, the Arrats, the ruisseau de la Barage and various other small watercourses.
A little history
Mauvezin was the capital of the Fézensaguet. This territory, dismembered from the comté de Fezenzac around 920, became the viscountcy of Fredelon, third son of Guillaume Garsie, in 940. It stretched from the gates of Saint-Clar and Fleurance to the surroundings of Auch and L'Isle-Jourdain. In 1275, the inhabitants received a charter of customs and liberties, granted by Géraud V.
