A little history
Of the many caves found at the foot of the mountain on the Lac d'Annecy side, only the cave known as the Trou du Renard and the grotte du Fortin contain traces dating back to the Neolithic period (skeletons, pottery). The prehistoric site of Vieugy, at the lieu-dit Sous les Guerres, is considered more significant following the discovery of tools (millstones, grinding stones, pottery) and also a bronze axe. The site lies within the territory of the Allobroges, who controlled the flat lowlands between the Rhône and the Alps. The Romans became active in the surrounding area from the 2nd century BC.
