A little history
Traces of human presence in the region date back to the Palaeolithic. A Pressignian flint (Levallois-type knapping) was discovered along the Cher at Vallon-en-Sully, attesting to a Neolithic presence in the commune. Vallon-en-Sully formed part of the territory of the Gaulish people known as the Bituriges Cubes, which extended across the western part of Allier as well as into the départements of Cher and Indre. What must have been one of the principal Biturige settlements is found in the neighbouring commune of Hérisson. It is the oppidum of Cordes-Châteloi.
