A little history
The early history of Taninges appears difficult to detail, owing to a lack of documents. The earliest documents available to us date from the 15th century. Previously, the parish was that of Flérier, and a large rockfall from the Marcelly in the 12th or 13th century is said to have buried the village situated on the hillsides below the Marcelly, prompting the founding of the chapel of Flérier, which is partially dated to the 13th century. "The church was formerly in the village. Ravines or rockfalls having destroyed it along with the greater part of the village, it was necessary to make use of the church of Fleyrier, which belonged to monks" (Petition of M. Jean-François Orsat, Maire, to M. le Préfet du Léman in 1804).
