Sciez ([sje], pronounced Scié), or Sciez-sur-Léman, more rarely Sciez en Chablais, is a French commune in the Chablais savoyard in the département of Haute-Savoie. The commune is situated on the southern shore of Léman and more precisely on the golfe de Coudrée. It forms part of the Franco-Swiss urban agglomeration of Grand Genève.
A little history
Around 2400 BC, a branch of the Saône-Rhône civilisation, from western Switzerland (Civilisation cordée), gradually settled on the shores of Léman (Excenevex, Chens, Sciez). They exported their produce (copper beads, hammer-axes) as far as the south of Dauphiné, passing through Annecy, Fillinges, Haute-Savoie. During the Bronze Age (1000 BC), excavations in the cemeteries of Douvaine and Sciez in 1977 demonstrated a strong presence in the region.
