Saint-Leu-la-Forêt is a French commune in Val-d'Oise situated in the vallée de Montmorency next to Taverny and Saint-Prix, approximately 20 km north of Paris. Its inhabitants are called the Saint-Loupiens, Saint-Loupiennes.
A little history
The town has numerous sentes, which were formerly used for the movement of inhabitants between gardens (referring to the commune's past as a wine-growing, farming and market-gardening area) or for lepers. The settlement was initially no more than a woodcutter's clearing and nothing is known of its history in the Middle Ages, a period during which a leper hospital existed at the lieu-dit La Chaumette. The village was a seigneury of the Montmorency family from the 14th century. In 1527, Anne de Montmorency purchased the lands of Saint-Leu from Philippe de Montmorency-Nivelle.
