Saint-Juéry is a French commune situated in the département of Tarn, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Albigeois, a natural agricultural region corresponding to the surroundings of the town of Albi. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Tarn, the ruisseau de Cunac, the ruisseau de la Pontésié, the ruisseau de Rassalens, the ruisseau de Sarlan and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
A fortress (or a small fort) was built at « Saint-Juéry-le-Haut », of which a few remains survive (merchant stalls). This « castelnau » was built around 1160 « en paréage entre les Trencavel et le monastère de Castres ». The fortifications were destroyed in the 17th century. At the beginning of the 18th century, the lord of Saint-Juéry was Antoine de Gontier, a resident of Lautrec. On 3 July 1707, he appointed Pierre de Bordoncle, royal judge of Castres, as his procurator in a legal dispute against mademoiselle de Saint-Amans.
