Saint-Jeoire, also known locally as Saint-Jeoire-en-Faucigny, is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Savoie, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
A little history
The neighbouring village of Onnion contains the oldest traces of human occupation in the two Savoies, with tools dating from -70000 found in the massif des Brasses. Human occupation subsequently ceased as a result of glaciation, not resuming until around -3000. Vestiges of occupation by Cro-Magnon people have been found in Saint-Jeoire, along with other later objects, notably from the Iron Age. Later, around the year one thousand, Benedictines settled on the site of the village, where they built a small chapel dedicated to Saint-Georges, which gave the village its name.
