The commune falls within the perimeter of the Val de Loire, listed since 2000 on the UNESCO World Heritage List as an exceptional cultural landscape. Long remaining a rural commune with its orchards and vineyards, it is today an industrial town of nearly 23,147 inhabitants (in 2023), forming part of the Métropole d'Orléans, which participates in the Orléans competitiveness clusters focused on chemistry and electronics.
A little history
The Orléans region has been inhabited since the Gaulish era. Two Roman roads are attested on the commune, Orléans (Cenabum) to Sens (Agedincum) and Orléans to Autun (Augustodunum). These two roads converge at Saint-Loup. The Romans planted the first vines, close to the Loire. This activity would continue until the 20th century.
