Saint-Jean-le-Blanc is a French commune situated in the Loiret département in the Centre-Val de Loire region, a residential suburb of Orléans. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the bras de Bou, the bras des Montées and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of two Natura 2000 sites and three natural areas of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Traces of a Roman road running from Orléans (Genabum) to Sancerre (Gortona) have been found, giving its name to a current hamlet, the Pavé Romain. The first mention of the name of the town dates from 1229 (Sanctus Johannes Albus). A château, of which no trace remains, was built in 1233. It was converted into a convent, Les Capucins, in 1578, which was itself repurposed for various uses before a school was built on its grounds.
