A little history
Traces of prehistoric occupation have been discovered at Gien-le-Vieux. Gien was probably a centre of exchange between Carnute farmers and Eduen blacksmiths. In the Roman era, and probably during the Gaulish period, the site of Gien-le-Vieux was occupied by a village. Significant Gallo-Roman remains have indeed been found there, including columns and coins.
