A little history
In 1692, the associates of the royal glassworks manufacturer, established in 1665 on the initiative of Jean-Baptiste Colbert to counter Venetian supremacy in the field of mirror glass, set up a new glassworks on the site of the former fortified castle that Enguerrand de Coucy had built on the rocky spur of Saint-Gobain and which had been dismantled in the mid-15th century.
