Saint-Erme-Outre-et-Ramecourt is a French commune situated in the département of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region, formerly Picardie. The inhabitants of the commune are called the Saint-Ermois and the Saint-Ermoises.
A little history
On the plateau de Saint-Erme, straddling the communes of Saint-Thomas and Saint-Erme-Outre-et-Ramecourt, lies the camp des Romains du vieux Laon, an ancient Gallo-Roman site believed to be linked to the Gaulish Bibrax. In the 7th century, saint Erme, born at Herly, which is none other than the present-day village of Saint-Erme, became a monk at the abbaye de Lobbes in Belgium and donated an estate he owned at Herly, where the monks of Lobbes founded a priory. Saint Erme went on to become the second abbot of Lobbes, and after his death the monks changed the name of the priory of Herly to Saint-Erme. In 1141, the priory of Saint-Erme is mentioned in the deed of confirmation of the foundation of the abbaye de Vauclair.
