Saillagouse (Catalan, Sallagosa) is a French commune, situated in the south-west of the département of Pyrénées-Orientales in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune is in the Cerdagne, a high plain at a mean altitude of 1,200 m, which stretches from east to west over some forty kilometres between the col de la Perche and Bellver (Spain). Exposed to a mountain climate, it is drained by the Sègre, the Ribiera d'Err and various other small watercourses.
A little history
In 1660, Saillagouse became the seat of the viguerie de Cerdagne. On 13 March 1822, Saillagouse absorbed the communes of Ro and Védrignans. On 8 October 1974, Saillagouse absorbed the commune of Llo by prefectoral order and the new commune took the name Saillagouse-Llo. These were once again separated by a prefectoral order of 14 March 1984.
