From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune is in the Cerdagne, a high plain at a mean altitude of 1,200 m, which stretches from east to west over some forty kilometres between the col de la Perche and Bellver (Spain). Exposed to a mountain climate, it is drained by the Sègre, the Ribiera d'Err and various other small watercourses.
