A little history
The very ancient origin of Reignier (formerly Regniacum, or Reginacum, then Rignie, Rignier, Regnier, and so on) is attested by the dolmen of the Pierre aux Fées situated not far from the village. The Druidic cult was practised in the region before the Roman occupation and Christian evangelisation, as evidenced by Bronze Age burials as well as Gallo-Roman and Burgundian remains. During the medieval period, the village of Reignier fell, like Saint-Romain[Quoi?], under the governance of Faucigny. Ésery is a small commune, on a hillside, overlooking the plain of Reignier.
