Puygouzon is a French commune situated in the centre of the département of Tarn, in the Occitanie region. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Albigeois, a natural agricultural region corresponding to the surroundings of the town of Albi. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the ruisseau de Carrofoul, the ruisseau de Jauzou, the ruisseau du Séoux and various other small watercourses.
A little history
Whilst the first dwellings in the old hamlet of Puygouzon can be dated to around the 13th century, human settlement on the site is considerably older. Indeed, private individuals have been able to find fragments of pottery in the Gallo-Roman style. The red, highly clay-rich soil of the commune may have been extracted and used for the manufacture of pottery, small bricks and other terracotta pieces in very ancient times. Merger with the commune of Montsalvy took place in 1827.
