Sur le plan historique et culturel, la commune fait partie du massif des Corbières, un chaos calcaire formant la transition entre le Massif central et les Pyrénées. Exposée à un climat méditerranéen, elle est drainée par le Verdouble, la rivière du Mas de Ségure, la rivière Tarrasac, Rec del Fenouill, le ruisseau de la Coume, le ruisseau de la Trune, le ruisseau Mayrat et par divers autres petits cours d'eau.
