From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the massif des Corbières, a limestone chaos forming the transition between the Massif central and the Pyrénées. Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the Orbieu, the Aussou, the ruisseau de Fontfroide and various other small watercourses.
