A little history
The comte Louis Elisabeth de la Vergne de Tressan came to live there in 1766 following the death of King Stanislas at Lunéville, whose minister of Culture he had practically been. Originally from Champagne (the region of Langres), the Poisson family settled in Nogent at the very beginning of the 17th century and one of its members, François, was the (supposed) father of one of the most celebrated mistresses of Louis XV, King of France, Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, who married Charles Guillaume le Normand d'Étiolles and became the marquise de Pompadour. She was however born in Paris and most likely rarely visited the village of Nogent.
