In historical and cultural terms, the commune lies within the Albigeois, a natural agricultural region corresponding to the surroundings of the town of Albi. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Tarn, the ruisseau de Carrofoul, the ruisseau Lavergne and by various other small watercourses.
A little history
The earliest written traces of a settlement at Marssac date from the 12th century. The village is linked to the presence of a ferry used to cross the river Tarn. This village comprised a church and a château. The latter was probably a place of refuge during the croisade des Albigeois and subsequently during the Guerres de Religion (France).
