Marnaz (pronounced Marna) is a French commune situated in the département of Haute-Savoie, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Its minimum altitude is 464 metres and its maximum altitude is 2,098 metres. Marnaz is a town in the middle valley of the Arve.
A little history
The hamlet of Marnaz became, in 1842, the chief town of the parish of Scionzier. Following disagreements in the municipal council from 1830 onwards, with the construction of a new church at the lieu-dit la Contamine as their focal point, the commune of Marnaz was created on 6 January 1866 by a decree of Napoléon III. The heart of the village is situated on a mountain slope. Following embankment works begun in 1824, the development of the commune extended towards the valley floor.
