Maisons-Alfort is a French commune in Val-de-Marne, in Île-de-France. It is situated in the south-east suburbs of Paris, three kilometres from the capital (and 600 metres from the Bois de Vincennes, Paris 12e), on the southern bank of the Marne. Its location allows rapid access to several major Île-de-France transport routes, namely the A4 to the north and the A86 to the south.
A little history
Archaeological excavations carried out in Maisons-Alfort in 1994 yielded the remains of a prehistoric, Neolithic and protohistoric occupation, dated to between 200,000 and 160,000 years ago. On the banks of the Marne, the remains of a burial, a megalith, a few vestiges further to the east and some tools were found. In the 1990s, during excavations near the pont de Charenton, a significant Neolithic settlement, including a burial, was unearthed by the LDA (Laboratoire Départemental d'Archéologie 94) and subsequently by the AFAN (Association pour les fouilles archéologiques nationales).
