A little history
An ecclesiastical text from the 11th century mentions an entrenchment of the bagaudae in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, at the place known as Bagaudarum castrum. A gate of Paris in the direction of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés is said to have received, in memory of the bagaudae, the name of porta Bagaudarum and then, by abbreviation, porta Bauda. A boulevard des Bagaudes exists in the commune of Saint-Maur-des-Fossés. The plaque, which dates from the modern era, bears the curious inscription « peuplade gauloise ». However, it was only in the 14th or 15th century that this text was added to the 11th-century manuscript on the life of saint Babolin, the first abbot of Saint-Maur in the 7th century.
