Lisle-sur-Tarn (in Occitan L'Illa d'Albigés), known during the Revolution as Lisle-du-Tarn, is a French commune situated in the département of Tarn, in the région of Occitanie. From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune lies within the Gaillacois, a pays whose renown stems from the quality of its wines. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Tarn, the Tescou, the ruisseau des Rodes, the ruisseau de Fongisquelle, the ruisseau de Marguestal, the ruisseau de Rabistau and various other small watercourses.

A little history

The site of Montaigut is a fortified village on the pilgrimage route to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. Its lord was a vassal of the counts of Toulouse. During the Albigensian Crusade, the north of the Tarn, loyal to the count of Toulouse Raymond VI, then Raymond VII, was the scene of destructive raids by the crusaders of Simon de Montfort. Under the treaty of Meaux-Paris, which brought the fighting to an end in 1229, orders were given to dismantle the ramparts.
