Exposée à un climat méditerranéen, elle est drainée par le Lez, le Lirou, la Déridière et par deux autres cours d'eau. La commune possède un patrimoine naturel remarquable, deux sites Natura 2000 (« le Lez » et les « hautes garrigues du Montpelliérais ») et trois zones naturelles d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique.
