Le Nouvion-en-Thiérache (pronounced [lə nuvjɔ̃ ɑ̃ tje.ʁaʃ]) is a French commune situated in the département of l'Aisne, in the région of Hauts-de-France.
A little history
In the forest of le Nouvion, in 1823, were discovered a tomb formed of four flat stones, in which there were no bones, but nearby were gathered two lachrymatory vessels in green glass, with fragments of a metallic mirror and several coins of Trajan, marking the antiquity of human occupation in the area. In 1196, the inhabitants obtained a communal charter from Gauthier d'Avesne, seigneur de Guise and du Nouvion. This charter, inspired by that of Prisces, itself a derivative of that of Laon, abolished various seigneurial rights such as formariage and mainmorte.
