A little history
In 1334, le Mayet-de-Montagne was a land of Auvergne. The counts of Auvergne, aware of the value of this strategic position facing the dukes of Bourbon, retained this land until 1589. It was at this date that Henri IV decided to correct the boundaries of the Bourbonnais by attaching le Mayet to it. In 1790, le Mayet became the chief town of the canton thanks to its position as a crossroads and traditional holiday destination.
