La Capelle is a French commune situated in the département of Aisne in the région of Hauts-de-France.
A little history
The village is said to have been founded by sainte Grimonie, a saint of Irish origin from the 4th century. During the Guerre franco-espagnole (1595-1598), the village was taken by the Spanish troops of the comte de Fuentes. The town had strategic importance, defending the French border facing Avesnes-sur-Helpe, which was Spanish. On 1st August 1874, the first official meeting at the hippodrome took place with seven races on a trial racecourse.
