A little history
Gandelu falls within the feudal domain of the comté de Meaux. From at least the beginning of the 12th century, the direct lord of Gandelu was the vicomte de Meaux, sire de La Ferté-sous-Jouarre. Ade de Meaux, daughter of the vicomte Geoffroy, passed the lordship to her husband Simon d'Oisy, and their daughter Hildiarde d'Oisy married André de Montmirail and gave birth to Jehan de Montmirail. A friend of Philippe Auguste at the end of the 12th century and the beginning of the 13th century, Jean de Montmirail (1165-1217) was partly lord of Gandelu. Other lords held fiefs both within the town inside the enclosure wall and across the territory dependent on it.
