Épinay-sur-Orge (pronounced [epinɛ syʁ ɔʁʒ]) is a French commune in the vallée de l'Orge, situated twenty-one kilometres south of Paris in the département de l'Essonne in the région Île-de-France.
A little history
Traces of occupation of the site in prehistoric times, including flint weapons and tools, as well as Gallo-Roman remains that have been found, attest to an ancient presence of groups of people on the territory. The first mention of the place dates back to the 8th century in the land register of the abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés, on which the seigneury depended, and then in the 9th century in the polyptyque d'Irminon. In the 12th century, the seigneuries of Épinay and du Breuil were brought together within the domain of the abbaye de Saint-Germain, and the farm, mill and hotel of the same name were built, though certain lands were ceded to local lords such as the domaine de la Gilquinière, acquired by Guillaume du Terme.
