Crouy, the town

Crouy covers 10.4 km², lies between 40 and 165 m above sea level and had 3,049 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

Crouy is a commune in the département of Aisne, in the cultural and historical region of Picardie, and in the administrative region of Hauts-de-France. Its inhabitants are known as the Crouyssiens (a Crouyssien, a Crouyssienne, nicknamed les Vendéens).

A little history

A necropolis from the early La Tène period was discovered in 1767, followed by a Gallo-Roman deposit in 1899 at the lieu-dit Justice. Crouy was a villa that became royal. Clothilde had an oratory there, and the village was given to the abbaye Saint-Médard de Soissons around 511. In 720, Charles Martel confirmed this donation. In 1148, Crouy was established as a commune and joined neighbouring communes such as Bucy-le-Long to the east of the commune.
