Crépy, formerly known as Crépy-en-Laonnois, is a French commune situated in the département of Aisne, in the région of Hauts-de-France.
A little history
The site of Crépy is of very ancient origin. A Celtic flint axe was found on the montagne de Crépy and the presence of the Merovingians is established. Crépy, a Gallo-Roman defensive site, was probably a vicus (small settlement) as early as the 7th century. In the 11th century, the town was the property of the monks of Saint-Vincent de Laon, then of those of Saint-Jean in the same town, and finally of the kings of France, who kept it until 1780. Crépy was established as a commune in 1184 under the reign of Philippe Auguste.
