Coucy-le-Château-Auffrique is a French commune in the département of Aisne and the Hauts-de-France region, in the arrondissement of Laon, within the canton of Vic-sur-Aisne. The commune of Coucy-le-Château absorbed that of Auffrique-et-Nogent in 1921. At present, the commune is still commonly referred to by the names Coucy or Coucy-le-Château without any mention of Auffrique.
A little history
The history of the town of Coucy is intimately linked to the château. The name of Coucy was not known before the early years of the 10th century. The lands of the town and the château formed part of the domain of the archbishops of Reims. A first château was built around the year 920 by Archbishop Hervé de Reims.
