Bruyères-et-Montbérault is a French commune situated in the département of Aisne, in the Hauts-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Bruyérois.
A little history
In the 11th century, the town was a deanery of the bishopric of Laon. In 1130, the town became a free commune through a charter of enfranchisement granted by King Louis VI le Gros. The church, built in a sturdy fashion with its fortified 13th-century bell tower, also forms part of the town's fortifications, which at that time had three gates. This Petit-fort was subsequently enlarged to encircle the entire town in 1350, with eight towers and three gates.
