In antiquity, Balaruc-le-Vieux was an agricultural territory and the site possessed thermal baths. The ancient name of Balaruc-les-Bains was Maimona (Mannona, Mannonam). This name appears in the cartulaire de Maguelone in 1130. This name is found on a photographic document of an inscription on a stone block.
