Sur le plan historique et culturel, la commune fait partie du Minervois, un pays de basses collines qui s'étend du Cabardès, à l'ouest, au Biterrois à l'est, et de la Montagne Noire, au nord, jusqu'au fleuve Aude au sud. Exposée à un climat méditerranéen, elle est drainée par le ruisseau de Canet, le ruisseau Neuf et par divers autres petits cours d'eau.
