A little history
Subsequently situated on the Gallo-Roman road linking Reims to Arras, via Vermand, near Saint-Quentin (patron saint of the parish), Athies was probably a simple staging post, surrounded by a few modest dwellings. A Gallo-Roman villa was discovered during excavations carried out along the route of the A26 motorway. The clearing of the forest freed up land that was annexed as early as the 14th century by the canons of the chapter of the cathédrale de Laon, who dominated the whole of the Laonnois. They remained the owners until the Revolution.
