Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Creuse, the Mage and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a natural zone of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Among the fossils found in the marl pits of Argenton, studied by Georges Cuvier, is a terrestrial Crocodylomorphe from the beginning of the Tertiary era, the Boverisuchus. The adult animal measured approximately 3 metres in length and became extinct at the end of the Éocène, during the cooling of the Grande Coupure. In 1899, in the quartier de la Croix de Laumay, on the boundary between Argenton and Le Pêchereau, a burial dated to the Néolithique was found. During this period at the end of the 19th century, in the area of Les Gabats, Les Crassaux and La Font des Cordeliers, isolated finds were made in connection with the Âge du bronze.
