A little history
The Templars possessed a commandery at Valençay which became a Hospitaller member upon the devolution of the assets of the order of the Temple. The seigneury (later marquisate) of Valençay was held by the Maison d'Estampes from 1451 to 1747. In 1813, through the traité de Valençay, Napoléon Bonaparte returned the throne of Spain to Ferdinand VII.
