Ardentes is a French commune situated in the département of Indre, in the Centre-Val de Loire region. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Indre, the Pontenoue and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage composed of three natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
Ardentes already existed in the Roman era and extended across both parts of the Indre under the names of « Alerta » and « Aléréa ». It is mentioned on the table de Peutinger under the name of « Alerta » since Ardentes was situated on the Roman road leading from Argentomagus (Argenton-sur-Creuse) to Avaricum (Bourges). The location of the église Saint-Martin was moreover that of a Roman temple.[Information douteuse] The parish of Ardentes depended on the abbaye de Déols. The existence of a stronghold, now disappeared, is known to have stood in the bourg Saint-Martin in the 15th century.
