A little history
Beneath the soil of Quaëdypre, Bergues and Wormhout, fossil remains of pachyderms (elephant or mammoth) of the same type as those found at Arques have been discovered, dating from prehistory. A very first human settlement at Wormhout existed in the 5th century. During their invasion of Gaul in 451, Attila and the Huns devastated Bergues, then known as Groenbergh, and several towns and villages in the region, Arras, Thérouanne, Tournai, etc., as well as Wormhout and Esquelbecq, before heading towards Amiens and Paris. The first known mention of Wormhout dates from the end of the 7th century in the cartulary of the abbaye de Sithiu, now Saint-Omer.
